Recreating the Nalanda Forest:

Nalanda Revived, Nature Thrives

Regreening the Past, Nurturing Tomorrow: Nalanda's Rebirth

The heart of our mission lies in the rejuvenation of the “Nalanda Forest.”

This endeavor involves the strategic planting of extinction trees and the cultivation of Ayurvedic medicinal plants. It’s not just about reforesting; it’s about preserving biodiversity, supporting natural ecosystems, and reinstating a symbol of our commitment to a greener and healthier world.

The “Planet Protectors” project embodies the power of unity, education, and community action. It is a testament to the belief that, together, we can be the stewards of our planet, protectors of nature, and beacons of hope for a more sustainable future.

Biodiversity Conservation

The primary objective of restoring the Nalanda Forest is to protect and enhance the region's biodiversity. By reforesting with a variety of native tree species, including those facing extinction, the project aims to create a diverse and balanced ecosystem. This will provide a habitat for a wide range of wildlife, preserve native flora and fauna, and help maintain the natural heritage of the area.

Ecosystem Restoration and Climate Mitigation:

Reforestation is a crucial tool in mitigating climate change and restoring ecosystem services. The restoration of the Nalanda Forest will contribute to carbon sequestration and improved air and water quality. It will also help regulate local climate patterns, reduce soil erosion, and enhance the overall health and resilience of the ecosystem.

Community Engagement and Sustainable Use:

he project seeks to actively involve the local community in the restoration effort. By creating awareness and involving community members in tree planting, maintenance, and protection activities, the project aims to instill a sense of ownership and stewardship among the people. This will not only ensure the long-term success of the reforestation project but also empower the community to sustainably utilize forest resources for their livelihoods.

Prioritizing the planting of extinction trees in our Nalanda reforesting project is not just a choice; it’s an imperative rooted in the dire need for ecological restoration. In Sri Lanka, where biodiversity is a hallmark of its natural heritage, the urgency of this task becomes evident when considering the alarming data on tree extinction. Over the years, Sri Lanka has witnessed a substantial decline in its native tree species, with several once-common trees now on the brink of disappearing forever.

According to the Sri Lanka Red List, a comprehensive assessment of the country’s flora, many of these endangered trees face multiple threats, including habitat loss, deforestation, and invasive species. By prioritizing the planting of extinction trees in the Nalanda Forest, we are not only working to conserve the genetic diversity and cultural significance of these trees but also aiding in the restoration of vital ecosystems. This initiative is a lifeline for countless species that depend on these trees for food, shelter, and survival. It is a compelling reminder that we are the stewards of our planet, entrusted with the task of preserving its remarkable biodiversity for future generations.

Nalanda's Green Guardians: Our Planted Tree Legacy

Our journey begins with the meticulous identification of suitable areas within the Nalanda Forest for reforestation. These carefully selected sites hold the potential for restoring a lush and thriving ecosystem. Extinction trees, which are on the brink of vanishing from our landscapes, take center stage in our mission. By planting these endangered species, we are not just sowing seeds; we are rekindling hope for the future of our planet.
