About Us
Welcome to the “Planet Protectors” project! In a world grappling with critical environmental challenges, we stand as a beacon of hope and positive change. Our initiative is led by the venerable Most Ven. Thiththagalle Anandansiri Thero and is fueled by the unwavering dedication of IUHS University Undergraduates. Together, we are a resolute response to the pressing need for environmental conservation and youth engagement.
Our Mission: Recreating the Nalanda Forest
According to the Sri Lanka Red List, a comprehensive assessment of the country’s flora, many of these endangered trees face multiple threats, including habitat loss, deforestation, and invasive species. By prioritizing the planting of extinction trees in the Nalanda Forest, we are not only working to conserve the genetic diversity and cultural significance of these trees but also aiding in the restoration of vital ecosystems. This initiative is a lifeline for countless species that depend on these trees for food, shelter, and survival. It is a compelling reminder that we are the stewards of our planet, entrusted with the task of preserving its remarkable biodiversity for future generations.
Medicinal Tree Planting: Bridging Tradition and Modernity
We complement our reforestation efforts by delving into the profound wisdom of Ayurveda. Through the planting of trees with medicinal value, we bridge the gap between traditional healing practices and modern environmental stewardship. These trees become the embodiment of a sustainable, holistic approach to both ecological and medical well-being.
